Subodh Agarwal IAS Explores Rajasthan's Innovative Digital Water Distribution System

Rajasthan has introduced a digital platform to make water distribution from the Gang Canal and Indira Gandhi Canal more transparent and efficient. This system aims to solve long-standing issues with water availability and distribution, ensuring that all farmers in the district can benefit equally.

The Water Resources Department explains that representatives from different farmer associations will enter details about each farmer in their area into the system. Once this is done, irrigation turn slips will automatically be sent to farmers online. This online “barabandi” (fixed turn) system could eventually be expanded to other districts in the state, ensuring fair water distribution across Rajasthan and helping farmers across the region.

Subodh Agarwal IAS officer, believes that real-time information from this system will improve water planning and usage. He also mentions that once the technology is fully understood, it could be adapted and implemented across other parts of the state and even nationwide. This digital approach could transform water management across India, providing a sustainable solution to the challenges faced by agriculture and the environment.
